Dan Cammish topped the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship session of the series' finale weekend on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this morning.
Driving for the local, Wrotham-based NAPA Racing UK squad, the multiple race-winner lapped the Kent circuit's longer layout in 1m31.418s in bright and clear conditions. Cammish's best effort in his Ford Focus ST was just 0.019s clear of Tom Ingram, who finished the session as the fastest of the four title contenders after 40 minutes of running.
Of the other outright championship hopefuls, Ash Sutton fared next best, running fourth in the second NAPA Racing UK entry, just over two-tenths behind his teammate Cammish. Sutton enters the weekend as the championship leader and will be the driver who has the least access to hybrid boost throughout qualifying and the opening race of the weekend.
Jake Hill, who heads into the weekend second in the order was down in 10th during the opening track session at his local circuit, whilst outsider in the hunt Colin Turkington was seventh.
Others who enjoyed a strong showing during the first track action of the weekend included Toyota factory aces Rory Butcher and Ricky Collard who were third and sixth quickest respectively and three-time champion Gordon Shedden who was fifth.
The lower portion of the top-ten was dominated by BMWs in Free Practice 1, with the Ciceley Motorsport machines of George Gamble and Adam Morgan splitting Turkington and Hill's WSR entries in eighth and ninth.
