Championship contender Fred Green claimed a superb double pole position in qualifying at Brands Hatch on Saturday afternoon. 

The British driver, who heads into the weekend with a 49-point deficit to championship leader Alex O'Grady, was dominant in the 20-minute session, recording a 1m24.230s with a couple of minutes remaining. His next best time of 1m24.246s was enough to ensure he'll start both of this weekend's 'main races' from pole position. 

Until Green's late effort, things had looked extremely close between him and O'Grady, who looked set to share the front row for race one until Green's late flier, combined with an improvement from Fortec's title outside Thomas Ingram Hill, demoted O'Grady to third. 

Ingram Hill's lap was 0.137s away from Green, with O'Grady 0.165s further back in third. The top-three for race one were replicated on the second fastest times, making for an intriguing pair of contests on the Grand Prix circuit, with O'Grady needing three solid finishes this weekend to wrap up the title. 

Hillspeed's title hopeful Enzo Hallman was fourth, 0.079s behind O'Grady, but realistically needed to bank a starting position ahead of the main title contenders in order to stay in the mix. 

Pace Performance's Torrin Byrne was fifth, continuing his run of top-six starts in the second half of the season, and was just 0.049s away from Hallman and a tenth clear of the final title contender, Douglas Motorsport's Dayton Coulthard. 

Fortec's Franciszek Cegielski, the favourite for the Rookie Title, did his chances no harm with the seventh quickest time, 0.126s ahead of Elite's Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso, with Cegielski's rookie rival Conor Grant (Douglas) and Hillspeed's Connor Willis completing the top-10, which was covered by 1.203s. 

While the top three remained the same for the race two grid, Byrne moved up to fourth ahead of Hallman and Coulthard. 

Grant, Cegielski, Del Grosso and Arden's Michael Koh completed the top-10 for the provisional race two grid.
