Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus secured a double GT World Challenge powered by AWS pole position after each went fastest in their Qualifying segment at Brands Hatch this afternoon (Saturday). This means their shared Lionspeed GP Porsche will start both of Sunday’s Sprint Cup races on the Grand Prix circuit from pole position.
It was Feller’s turn to take to the track in the opening 10-minute session, and he lapped the Kent circuit’s longer circuit in 1m22.722s, which at that point was the quickest effort of the weekend so far. This gave him an impressive margin of almost a quarter of a second over Arthur Leclerc in AF Corse’s lead Ferrari.
Matisse Lismont was further back still, almost four tenths of a second behind Feller’s pace in the first of the Team WRT BMWs. He was followed by Dani Juncadella in the Mercedes-AMG running under the Team Verstappen Racing banner, with Konsta Lappalainen rounding out the top-five in Emil Frey Racing’s Ferrari.
Morris Schuring and Dylan Pereira were next, with Valentino Rossi offering a promising showing in eighth on his return to Brands Hatch for the first time since 2024.
The second session was faster still, with Buus clipping a few hundredths from Feller’s effort in the same car. And it was key he found that pace too, as Chris Lulham was only a tenth off after stepping into the seat vacated by Juncadella.
Max Hesse was next, in the car he shares with Rossi, offering the MotoGP hero’s fans hopes of a strong Sunday result. That car was followed by the Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG of Maro Engel. That car has a great record at Brands Hatch, so Engel and teammate Lucas Auer’s presence towards the front will give their rivals cause to think. Gilles Magnus complete the top five.
Two Sprint Cup rounds, each running for an hour are planned at Brands Hatch on Sunday, with the first due at 11:15. This will be immediately preceded by a minute’s silence following the news that motorsport icon Alex Zanardi has died. The second race will follow at 15:45.
