Nelson Piquet Jr has been announced as a blockbuster addition to the NASCAR Euro Series grid for this season, with confirmation that he’ll join the championship’s premier V8GP class. The NASCAR Euro Series visits Brands Hatch to headline the latest edition of American SpeedFest on 6/7 June.
This move returns Piquet Jr to the venue at which he made a significant splash in global motorsport by winning the inaugural A1 Grand Prix race in 2005. Representing his home country under the A1 Team Brazil banner, Piquet Jr produced the double on that memorable weekend around the full Grand Prix circuit.
In the years that followed, Piquet Jr rose to Formula 1 before establishing a reputation as a versatile pro, with experience in sports cars, touring cars, rallycross and NASCAR. He was also crowned as the inaugural Formula E Champion in 2015. His NASCAR record includes victories in multiple classes on both road courses and ovals.
He now turns his attention to a NASCAR Euro Series V8GP campaign with French team, Alumitec Racing. Team Principal and CEO Alain Lord Mounir said: “Last year we finished second in the championship. This year we are putting every effort, every resource, and every piece of energy into winning it. Nelson’s experience in Formula E, NASCAR, and international racing makes him a perfect fit for our program. Together with Gianmarco Ercoli, we have a driver lineup capable of fighting for the championship.”
Piquet Jr himself added: “I’m very excited to join Alumitec Racing. Competing in Europe has always been a meaningful challenge for me, and the NASCAR Euro Series brings together a level of competition that genuinely excites me. The team has shown strong performance and determination, and it’s clear they are fully committed to winning. I’m looking forward to working with everyone and fighting for victories and the championship this season.”
