Tom Ingram became the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Champion with a commanding performance in the penultimate round of the year at Brands Hatch this afternoon (Sunday). The Team VERTU Hyundai racer finished ahead of title rival Ash Sutton to put the title out of the latter’s mathematical reach.
It was Ingram’s teammate, Tom Chilton, who took the lead as the pack pulled away, shooting past pole-sitter Dan Cammish and holding off the fast starting Charles Rainford. Ingram was on the move too though, passing Cammish before the end of the first lap to run third behind Rainford.
Ingram moved past Rainford’s BMW at Paddock Hill Bend on lap two and was ahead of Chilton by the time the field streamed onto the Grand Prix loop the next time around. Behind that, Sutton was doing everything he could to keep the pressure on Ingram, first passing NAPA Racing UK stablemate Cammish before dipping past Rainford at Westfield to move into the top-three.
Rainford lost a significant amount of momentum as Sutton went by with Cammish also popping past. He was losing further ground too before getting caught out in a tangle at Paddock on lap five and retiring grom the race. This brought the safety car out with Ingram still leading from Chilton with Sutton tucked in third.
The race restarted on lap nine, with an extended distance of 18 laps now in play but Ingram once again managed the gap to those chasing well. Chilton was forced to defend from Sutton, but full speed action was once again halted just a lap later when Aron Taylor-Smith’s Toyota ended up in the gravel at Druids after contact with teammate Josh Cook.
Chilton slowed down during the second safety car period, allowing Sutton to move into striking distance of Ingram as the race resumed on lap 14. But there was nothing the four-time champion could do about the Hyundai ahead, with Ingram driving home to take the win and provisionally the title, ending with a flourish by setting the fastest lap on the final tour.
Sutton took second with Senna Proctor ultimately crossing the line third following a late charge up the field. Proctor passed Cammish a handful of laps from home, and was followed through by Gordon Shedden who took fourth. Cammish completed the top-five, one place ahead of teammate Daniel Rowbottom.
Last year’s title winner Jake Hill was seventh after rising up the order from 19th on the grid at his home circuit. Cook crossed the line eighth ahead of Aiden Moffat who will start the final race of the year from pole after the reverse grid draw. Adam Morgan completed the top-10, recovering from an early spin.
