Kyle Ryde was crowned Bennetts British Superbike Championship with Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha during a tense final race of the season at Brands Hatch, which was won by Danny Kent for McAMS Racing Yamaha. Bradley Ray finished second for Raceways Yamaha, ultimately ending the season 20 points behind Ryde in the final standings.
Scott Redding, who won the two earlier races in the weekend, briefly held the lead from pole position at the start before Kent and then Ray moved by with the latter at the front when the pack first streamed down the hill out of Druids. Ryde made a more watchful start, ending the opening lap fourth.
Ray’s early lead was from Rory Skinner who picked his way up into second on the opening lap before Kent settled into the race and regained the position on lap two. Ray held onto the lead, giving him the best possible chance of the major points swing he required, until lap five when Kent swept past at Sheene.
Kent was able to control the race from there, riding home to the finish to give the McAMS Racing Yamaha outfit a winning send-off during its final Bennetts BSB race. But the overall drama continued to rumble on behind the leader.
On lap 12, Ray lost another position to the MasterMac Honda of Charlie Nesbitt, who had worked his way through from fifth to challenge for the podium. Had they finished in this order, Ryde’s finishing position would have been irrelevant, with Ray needing a top-two to have any chance. Ray didn’t seem to have an answer for Nesbitt’s pace, but was handed a lifeline when the other rider fell at Graham Hill Bend just two laps from home.
Nesbitt’s departure from the race allowed Ray to cruise home to second and ensured Ryde would have to reach the finish, under pressure, in what were proving to be hugely tricky conditions. Indeed, Skinner fell at Stirlings, whilst the hard charging Fraser Rogers, who’d come from 14th to run fourth early on, also fell out of the race.
At one stage, Ryde was falling into the lower reaches of the top-10, but with fellow competitors struggling, the reigning champion kept calm and crucially between the white lines. He lost ground along the way to 2023 title winner Tommy Bridewell, who produced a quietly impressive ride to third, along with Storm Stacey and Redding who was another to recover from losing ground in the early part of the race.
But Ryde was sixth when the chequered flag fell, allowing him to celebrate a second successive title with an extraordinary 60th consecutive finish in Bennetts BSB’s premier class. Max Cook, Lee Jackson, Billy McConnell and Glenn Irwin completed the final top-10 of the 2025 season.
Behind Ryde and Ray, Leon Haslam ended the season third outright, despite not starting the final race following earlier bike damage. Redding worked his way up to fourth in the final table despite only contesting a partial campaign, whilst Bridewell’s last gasp podium secured fifth.
