Kyle Ryde moved to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Free Practice times in the final moments of the session as the defending champion marked his return to Brands Hatch since his title victory by snatching the advantage from Bradley Ray by 0.148s.
Ray had been holding the position until the closing stages, when Ryde’s final lap of the session fired him to the top, with Christian Iddon having a strong start with AJN Steelstock Kawasaki to move into third in the final stages of the session.
Danny Kent was fourth fastest for McAMS Racing Yamaha, holding off Leon Haslam as the Moto Rapido Ducati Racing rider held off Rory Skinner on the Cheshire Mouldings Ducati, easing Tommy Bridewell and Max Cook down the order as they completed the top eight.
Andrew Irwin and Lee Jackson completed the top ten, nudging Scott Redding into eleventh by just 0.101s as the top 13 riders down to Josh Brookes were covered by just 0.997s.
