Brands Hatch latest: Woodland management update

19 February 2025

Visitors to Brands Hatch this season may notice some alterations to the woodland areas of the circuit. This is resulting from ongoing woodland management projects, undertaken to protect, preserve and maintain a healthy and biodiverse environment around the site.

The most drastic changes will be the felling of trees at several locations throughout the venue, some of which are obviously apparent upon arrival. This is primarily due to the felling of ash trees, following inspections which concluded that ash die-back disease had spread widely throughout the site.

A significant number of ash trees have been felled as part of this ongoing process, following the issue of a licence from the Forestry Commission in 2024. And with their guidance, an approved contractor has been taking down trees since last spring, but with more extensive work carried out during the winter.

The circuit has kept both Sevenoaks District Council and the local Liaison Group up to date with progress throughout the work. The ash management project has taken place alongside general coppicing to allow a broader range of plants to flourish on-site.

It is planned for a major replanting programme to begin by this autumn, laying the foundations for a healthy biodiverse future for the circuit’s woodland areas.
