Ryan Vickers fired the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing R1 to the top of the times in the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship Free Practice session at Brands Hatch, reclaiming the position from Christian Iddon in the final minute as the pair traded blows at the top of the times.
The first Free Practice session opened with an incredibly close start to the weekend with the top 13 riders covered by just 0.895s.
Vickers had been the leading rider for most of the second half of the session but Iddon moved to the top with under three minutes to go, but the Yamaha contender was able to up the pace on his final lap to move ahead by 0.066s.
Tommy Bridewell was third fastest for Honda Racing UK as he moved ahead of Glenn Irwin in the final ten minutes with Kyle Ryde completing the top five in the opening session of the weekend.
Lee Jackson was sixth fastest for MasterMac Honda, just ahead of an impressive performance from Franco Bourne on the Rapid Honda and Danny Kent for the McAMS Racing Yamaha team.
Team Green completed the top ten with Danny Buchan in ninth and Jason O'Halloran in tenth.
