BTCC legend Radisich to make Brands Hatch return at Super Touring Power

Paul Radisich, one of the leading protagonists of the British Touring Car Championship’s fondly remembered ‘90s era, will make his competitive return to the venue behind the wheel of a Ford Mondeo at Super Touring Power on 1/2 July.

The rapid New Zealander, who is best remembered in the UK for his stint at the wheel of Ford machinery, will pilot the Andy Rouse built Mondeo in which he won the 1994 FIA Touring Car World Cup at Donington Park. The car is currently owned by Scott O’Donnell who had previously planned to race on the Indy and Grand Prix circuits himself, but who has now arranged for the period star to take the controls.

Radisich’s return to Brands Hatch comes 30 years on from his maiden BTCC race victory, which he sealed at the very same venue in August 1993. The race is remembered as an all-time classic at the Kent circuit with Radisich leading home Robb Gravett and Steve Soper to give the Mondeo its first success in the championship.

Radisich’s Brands Hatch win kicked off a run of three victories from the final five races as he carried himself to third in the standings, despite missing the opening part of the 1993 season. Towards the end of the year Radisich secured a double victory at Monza to win the first edition of the FIA Touring Car World Cup a year before his Donington Park success.

Following his bright start to life in the BTCC Radisich remained a frontrunner in the series into 1994 and continued to race for the manufacturer until he switched to Peugeot for his final season in the championship in 1998. After leaving the BTCC, Radisich raced full-time in V8 Supercars in Australia and New Zealand.

Radisich is the third driver from the era to be confirmed for Super Touring Power following the recent news that former Australian Super Touring Championship and V8 Supercars runners Greg Murphy and Steven Richards would line-up at the event.

Discounted advance tickets for Super Touring Power at Brands Hatch on 1/2 July are available from £25 with free entry for under-13s. For more information click here.
