BRANDS HATCH TO FEATURE ICONIC 500CC GRAND PRIX BIKES AT BENNETTS BSB

13 July 2023

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit will reverberate to the sight and sounds of three iconic 500cc GP bikes during the upcoming Monster Energy round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch (July 21/22/23).

MotoGP legend Randy Mamola will be reunited with his Ingersoll Heron Suzuki on which he won his first 500cc Grand Prix race at the 1980 Belgian Grand Prix, making him the youngest Grand Prix premier class winner in history at that time. He won again at the British Grand Prix and finished that season in an impressive second place in the final standings.

Another machine present and associated with Mamola is the Cagiva 1988 C588 Factory Bike and that will also feature in the demonstration. Fellow American and fans’ favourite John Hopkins will join multiple Grand Prix winner Mamola on track, as he returns to the Grand Prix circuit to ride the Cagiva.

Completing the trio will be Britain’s 1990s Grand Prix hero and three-time BSB champion Niall Mackenzie who will ride a 1995 ROC Yamaha, as fans trackside will be treated to the demonstration celebrating a golden era of Grand Prix racing.

The demonstrations will take place on Saturday at 12:10 – 12:25 and on Sunday from 12:55 – 13:10 ahead of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship eBay Qualifying and race respectively.
