Local residents raised more than £5,000 for a variety of good causes at the annual Brands Hatch Villagers' Day on Sunday (4 February).

The event was open to all those living within a one-mile radius of the venue, and allowed locals to enjoy a range of activities in exchange for a donation to charity.

After a short briefing session, residents were invited to sample the circuit's driving experience vehicles from behind the wheel, including the BMW M4, Land Rover Defender and Toyota GT86 rally cars.

Other activities included high-speed passenger laps, riding shotgun with an expert instructor, plus YoungDrive lessons in a superb Mini ONE for visitors aged 11 to 17. In total, more than 500 experiences were provided during the day. The money will go directly to local projects, and the Brands Hatch Liaison Group, headed by MotorSport Vision's Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer, has nominated the following causes to receive a share of the funds raised:

• St Mary Church, Fawkham

• Fawkham Village Hall Committee

• St Edmund King & Martyr, Parish Church, West Kingsdown

• West Kingsdown Boxing Club

Brands Hatch Assistant Operations Manager, Adrian Clarke, commented: "We were delighted to see so many residents turn out for our annual Villagers' Day, and I'd like to say thanks from everyone at the circuit to all of those who attended at the weekend. Their kind donations have raised a fantastic amount for the local community. I hope to see many of those who were here back at our events throughout the year."
