Brands Hatch Villagers' Day raises money for local causes - 9 Feb 2010

08/02/2010 - Brands Hatch raised almost £3,000 for local charitable causes at its sixth annual Villagers' Day event last weekend (Saturday 6 February).

The community fun day was open to anyone living within one mile of the circuit, and over 500 local residents flocked to Brands Hatch to enjoy driving masterclasses, passenger rides and behind-the-scenes circuit tours.

For a £6 charitable donation, visitors were able to get behind the wheel of some of the circuit's driving experience vehicles including the BMW M3, Peugeot 206 rally car and Land Rover Defender.

Other activities included flying passenger laps in a Palmer Jaguar Le Mans-style sports car, driven by an expert Brands Hatch instructor, and children's karting courtesy of Buckmore Park.

The event raised almost £3,000 in total, which will be divided between good causes in the local community by the Brands Hatch Liaison Group, headed by circuit owner MotorSport Vision's Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer.

Mike Groves, Brands Hatch circuit manager, said: "Villagers' Day is a great way for us to engage with members of the community whilst raising money for local causes, and despite some unpleasant weather in the morning it was nice to see another strong turnout.

"All our guests seemed to enjoy the day and the circuit tours proved as popular as the driving activities. I think many people were surprised by just how much hard work goes on behind the scenes to run Brands Hatch on a daily basis."
