Brands Hatch awarded FIA Grade 2 licence for further 3 years - 9 Apr 2009

FIA delegate Roland Bruynseraede visited the UK yesterday (Wednesday 8 April) to carry out a track inspection at Brands Hatch, before confirming that both the Indy and Grand Prix circuit Grade 2 licences have been renewed for a further three years.

The decision means that Brands Hatch will have the required FIA licence to continue hosting major international car championships such as the FIA World Touring Car Championship, FIA Formula Two Championship and the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of Brands Hatch owner MotorSport Vision, said: "I'm delighted that the FIA has extended Brands Hatch's Grade 2 circuit licence for the next three years. We have always worked closely with both the FIA and the MSA to not only satisfy licensing requirements but also to make our circuits as safe as practically possible. Our team at Brands Hatch has immense pride in making their circuit amongst the most attractive to both competitors and spectators. The renewal of our track licence until 2012 enables us to plan ahead and continue to bring some of the most prestigious motor racing events in the world to Brands Hatch."

The FIA's Grade 2 licence was first granted for the full Grand Prix circuit in 2005, in order to allow Brands Hatch to host the inaugural A1GP event, and entitles the Kent circuit to host all car championship events with the exception of Formula One.
